When we moved into our home, the home inspector approved most things but for some reason missed the fact that our atrium (sun room) was leaking and would need to be repaired. We got a price of around seventeen thousand dollars from a man who represented a company that supposedly was expert at doing remodeling as well as removing old sun rooms and putting up new ones. He said that one of the worst problems would be the glass removal, as we had a lot of curved glass windows out in that room, some of which had lost their integrity and were leaking. This atrium had been put on in the 1960′s and the weather and sun had taken a toll on it. We had even hired someone to come and seal the leaks a couple of times but this was never successful, so we needed to go to the “next level” which would be getting removal and remodeling done of the whole atrium, a big project.

Being paranoid about mold and mildew as I am, I had a feeling that we were getting mold problems out in that room but my husband didn’t think so. He was right after all, much to my relief I might add. We decided to hire a friend and his roofing crew who also did remodeling San Diego projects (when work at roofing was slow they took on various remodeling projects to keep busy), as my husband felt comfortable with the quality of their work. The friend assured us that he and his crew had been doing projects such as remodeling and replacing sun rooms at various times. My husband was also going to do some of the work with them, which helped knock the price down also. So we went ahead and had this friend get some of the things needed. My husband ended up getting some of the larger, more expensive items such as the replacement windows themselves along with the flooring. All in all, we spent around two thousand dollars for the whole project. Compared to seventeen thousand as quoted by that other guy, we felt pretty good to have saved all that money and to finally get the project done!
