If we trace the history of the gymnastics trampoline, it can be dated back to after the end of World War II. Competitive gymnastics became popular during the 50′s and 60′s in the United States of America. Slowly, groups of gymnasts started doing world tours and pretty soon gymnastics was a worldwide accepted sport. The FIT or International Trampoline Federation was established in 1962 and at that time there were only seven members. Today, the members have increased to forty two. The first Annual Championships on a world level were organized in 1962, whereas the European Circuit started gaining popularity by 1969. 1981 saw the first ever Pan Pacific Championships and they have continued to be held every alternate year since. A European Youth Level Championship has also been organized on alternate years since its first competition was held way back in 1972. The introduction of the World Cup in 1993 raised audience ratings and propelled the sport to worldwide recognition.
